Yoga is connection
Hi! I'm Marcie. I am your typical, down-to-earth, Aberdeen girl – born, bred and back here for several years. Always the overachiever, I sought approval from and expressed my creativity through dance, swim and song. Unfortunately most of these pastimes fell by the wayside as I approached adulthood and dove into “serious life.”
With the start of a career in the retail world and ecommerce, I pressured myself to look and act in a certain way. This behavior led to struggles with anxiety, depression, eating disorders and addiction.
The bright spot occurred in 2001, when I practiced vinyasa yoga in Florida. It gave me a sense of grounding, peace and connection. I went on to practice frequently at Om Yoga Center, Laughing Lotus and other studios in the metro area. For some time, achieving impressive, challenging poses was the primary goal of my practice, while gaining serenity was a fortunate “byproduct” of it. Later, through my personal recovery journey, I developed a meditation practice that strengthened my asana (physical yoga) experience. More importantly, meditation gave me understanding about myself, calm, clarity and improved relationships.
When the pandemic hit, I realized I had too much extra time. I wanted to develop my passion and connect with people. These desires led me to get my 200 Hour Yoga Teaching Certification, at Tula Yoga in the summer of 2020.
Through yoga I’ve become more confident, authentic and relaxed. The practice has been a great accompaniment to my love of music, friendship, reading books and learning.
I now guide yoga and meditation at Alchemy House of Yoga & Wellbeing. I try to bring values of inclusivity, gratitude for our bodies, and kindness to my life on and off the mat.
I look forward to practicing with you!
